Denver, CO – The Blind Institute of Technology (BIT) and Activate Workforce Solutions have formed a partnership to advance their shared goal of achieving sustainable employment for underrepresented individuals, a first of its kind collaboration that is truly inclusive to all.

While BIT focuses on employment for professionals with disabilities, Activate works with individuals who have faced situational or long-term poverty, including people of color, immigrants, refugees, and homeless. Many of Activate’s clients are referred from work-experience or educational programs. The common thread is that all clients are seeking perpetual, meaningful employment to enhance their quality of life and to become contributing members of society but too often lack the employment opportunities because of their differences.

The two organizations will combine their expertise in talent acquisition and talent development to deliver a comprehensive workforce solution through career-readiness preparation, skill enhancement and post placement coaching. Additionally, the two will leverage BIT’s emphasis on technology, such as Salesforce, with Activate’s tech-driven workforce development initiative, Activate IT Powered by Per Scholas, a tuition-free IT training program which offers adult learners the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials for in-demand tech roles. BIT and Activate will work to place individuals from both of their programs into new technology careers and then support them with six months of post-placement coaching on professional and life skills to ensure success for the employee and the employer.

“The similarities in our missions, philosophies and end goals make this a natural partnership,” said Mike Hess, BIT’s Founder and Executive Director.

Activate Founder and CEO Helen Young Hayes added: “We are thrilled to join forces with BIT to provide a rigorous and end-to-end solution for moving underrepresented individuals into economic freedom through the dignity of work.”

Through its proprietary screening and coaching model, Activate has developed an employer-driven placement and retention program, with over 85% of the firm’s professional placements thriving in the same company twelve months after being hired. The retention rate for Activate’s placements is roughly three times higher than incumbents, saving employers an average of $12,000 per placement. Activate’s placements also see their annual earnings increase by an average of $20,000.

By leveraging relationships built with its corporate partners, emphasizing on workforce development and accessible technology, BIT strives to put its candidates in the best possible position for success. BIT works with such Fortune 500 companies as Aetna, a CVS Health Company, DaVita, Spectrum, Enquiron and Salesforce, placing employees in positions from Salesforce Administrators to web developers, from project managers to accessibility architects and many other roles in between, earning a median salary of $70,000 a year. For those candidates who have the technical aptitude but lack relevant certifications, the BIT Academy offers opportunities to achieve the training and certifications that help them to be competitive, such as its Salesforce Administrator Certification Preparation course.
